Quick Tour

The editor is a canvas with a panel on each side and a toolbar at the bottom. Learn where those live and one shortcut, and you can find everything else. To skip straight to designing with an agent, go to Your First AI Chat.

What’s on the screen?

Tabs run across the top, your files and layers sit on the left, properties on the right, and the tools and AI input at the bottom.

The Brilliant window: project tabs across the top, the nav rail, Files above Layers
  1. Tabs Home, then one tab per open project.

  2. Nav rail Switches the left panel between File, Assets, Checkpoints and Project.

  3. Files Every canvas in the project. Each canvas is one file.

  4. Layers Every element on the active canvas, nested the way the canvas nests.

  5. Canvas Where you design.

The bottom toolbar: search, tools, and the Ask Brilliant input
The bottom toolbar holds search, your tools and the AI input.
The right panel with nothing selected: Design system, Canvas, Strokes, Fills, Export
The right panel shows properties for your selection. With nothing selected, it shows the canvas’s.

What’s the one shortcut to learn?

Press ⌘K. It opens a search that finds and runs anything: commands, canvases, layers, fonts and chats.

The search palette with the query card, showing grouped Files, Layers and Commands
Type a few letters, arrow to the row, press Enter. Esc closes it.

When you know what you’re after, narrower searches are faster.

Where is the AI chat?

The AI input sits in the bottom toolbar. Press . to open the chat from anywhere. Press / with nothing selected to do the same; with a selection, / opens an inline prompt on that selection. Your First AI Chat walks through it.

How do I move around the canvas?

Navigation follows what you know from other design tools.

Do thisWith this
PanHold Space and drag, or two-finger drag
Zoom⌘= and ⌘-, or pinch
Fit the whole canvas⌘⌃A (AltA on Windows)
Fit the selection⌘⌃F (AltZ on Windows)
Flip to 100% and back0

How do I select and move things?

Click to select, and Shift-click to add or remove. Drag on empty canvas to marquee.

Do thisWith this
Drill into a frame, or back upEnter and ⇧Enter
Next or previous siblingTab and ⇧Tab
NudgeArrow keys; hold Shift for a larger step
Duplicate⌘D, or Option-drag a copy out
Undo and redo⌘Z and ⌘⇧Z

Undo covers your changes and the AI’s. There’s no penalty for experimenting.

Do I need to save?

No. Every change, yours or the AI’s, is saved to the .bl file on disk shortly after you stop editing, so you can close the app without losing work. A fresh launch drops you into a Scratch project, so you can design before opening a folder of your own.

.bl files are plain-text Blueprint, so they work in git: every commit renders as a readable diff.

Keep a version.
Autosave covers "I closed the laptop". A commit or a duplicate of the file covers "I want a version to go back to". Published projects also get named checkpoints and a full history.
